The plugin TM Replace Howdy lets me replace “Howdy” with a static word or phrase, a randomly selected greeting from a default list, or – my choice – a randomly selected greeting from a custom list that I create. My list includes friendly catch phrases from TV and movies.

Update 2019-03-19: Well, crap …
This plugin hasn’t been tested with the latest 3 major releases of WordPress. It may no longer be maintained or supported and may have compatibility issues when used with more recent versions of WordPress.
Gotta move on from TM Replace Howdy.
