It’s a fair question. Lotsa people who don’t usually telecommute are telecommuting. Many more will be doing so soon. That’s gonna put a strain on the interwebs.

Lotsa other people will be staying home, social-distancing, quarantined, caring for kids during school closures, or locked down. The usual distractions that help us cope with crises – things like sports, comedy, music, classes, religion, other public events – are mostly or entirely shut down. Going online is pretty much all we have left for the foreseeable future. I can stream movies, old TV shows, and YouTube (Lindybeige!). I can chat, use social media, keep up on the news, post rambling thoughts, and on and on. All without endangering myself or anyone else through personal contact.
Again, all this is gonna put a strain on the interwebs.
But will the interwebs break? I seriously doubt it. One thing that we can all be exceptionally grateful for in this crisis is that we have – from a policy and actions standpoint – perhaps the greatest President in our history. I can easily envision Trump pulling out the stops, no expense spared, if needed to keep the interwebs interwebbing. Seriously, any honest person at this time has to be cringing in horror at the utterly catastrophic disaster that a Hillary presidency would have guaranteed.
That’s not to say all will be wine and roses. I expect slowdowns, local temporary outages, and so on. Nothing too serious. I hope I’m right.
